Housing discrimination complaints should be directed to HUD’s Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunities (FHEO).

Types of discrimination complants covered by federal law

If a real estate appraiser based analysis or opinion of market value on any of the following:

  • race
  • color
  • religion
  • sex
  • age
  • marital status
  • handicap
  • familial status
  • national origin
  • or on any other basis prohibited by law

in relation to:

  • participants in the transaction
  • prospective owners or occupants of the subject property
  • present owners
  • occupants of the properties in the vicinity of the subject property

HUD’s Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunities (FHEO)

The mission of the Office of FHEO is to eliminate housing discrimination, promote economic opportunity, and achieve diverse, inclusive communities by leading the nation in the enforcement, administration, development, and public understanding of federal fair housing policies and laws.

State Appraiser or AMC Agency

Discrimination complaints should also be reported to the State regulatory agency for appropriate action and/or referral.
